How a chat in a pub turned into potential business

I went to a school reunion at the weekend.

I had pretty low expectations, expecting to meet up with a couple of people I knew would be there.

I thought it might be fun and as I had my car, I knew I could leave when I wanted.

I guess I felt like many do when they go networking, thinking “how bad can it be?” and “I can leave at any time … I’ll just say I’ve had a message and have to go!”

Anyway, I got there and it turned out there were 5 or 6 people I had known some 48 years ago. I probably wouldn’t have recognised them but we immediately fell back into easy conversation. Lots of … “so what have you been doing for the past 5 decades” … “what did you do post 16”.

I had a good afternoon catching up and getting to know my friend’s wife who had joined the school the term after I left. She was a really interesting woman who thought what I did was interesting too … and it turns out she might need my services!

As I so often say – networking is something, that we adults have named, that our children call making friends!

I had a great afternoon, made and re-made some friends and as a side note, potentially, some business will be done too!
